As a team we are proud that 44% of our staff are women, and one reason why we are keen advocates of encouraging more women into the industry. So, as we celebrate Women in Construction Week we thought we would share the thoughts of one of our team members on what it’s like to work within the industry.
Here, our Quantity Surveyor, Jade Chapman tells us why she enjoys working in the Construction Industry.
My role as Quantity Surveyor for Albemarle Homes is to keep a close eye on project finances and contractual relationships, making sure each and every home is built to the company’s strict high standards.
I’ve always been interested in the built environment, initially studying architecture. However, I took a break from studies to travel and when I returned to the UK, I decided to start my career early and joined a construction firm. It was here where I studied Quantity Surveying at building college and thereafter at Sheffield Hallam university whilst I was working full time.
I love working in Construction as every day is different, I enjoy building relationships with people on site and I like to see a project go from paper to final construction. I am also passionate about women in construction, I actually wrote my dissertation at university on this, it is such a rewarding career I would love to encourage more women into the industry.

What our MD says…
“Women like Jade are true inspirations to other women who are considering going into the construction industry. Women bring unique skills and perspectives to the table that are invaluable to the success of any project, they should be celebrated for their contributions and encouraged to pursue their ambitions in construction more.
“According to Go Construct, in 2022 14% of women were construction industry professionals. Let’s all make a concerted effort to encourage more women to go for a job that interests them without prejudice.”
