Albemarle Homes Highlights Importance of Men’s Mental Health This Blue Monday

While the third Monday in January has traditionally been labelled Blue Monday, Albemarle Homes is choosing to support Brew Monday, a more positive alternative coined by the Samaritans,  which encourages people to take a moment, put the kettle on and check in with one another.

We have encouraged our site colleagues and sub-contractors to take five, share a cuppa and have a conversation, this Monday, which recognises that small moments of connection can make a real difference. This will be followed later in the month, by a dedicated mental health talk delivered by Andy’s Man Club, a men’s suicide prevention charity, that will help to reinforce the importance of talking, listening and supporting one another.

The construction industry remains one of the sectors most affected by poor mental health, with men in construction at a significantly higher risk of suicide than the national average.

Darryl Barker, Managing Director at Albemarle Homes, said: “Construction is a demanding industry, both physically and mentally, and it’s vital that we don’t shy away from talking about that. Supporting our teams’ wellbeing isn’t a one-day initiative, it’s about creating a culture where people feel comfortable checking in with each other and asking for help when they need it.

“By recognising Brew Monday and welcoming Andy’s Man Club to speak with our team and sub-contractors, we’re reminding everyone that they’re not on their own. Sometimes a simple conversation over a brew can be the first step to getting support, not just on Blue Monday but all year round.”
