BLOG – Inspiring Your Lockdown Clean

Working from home? Keeping the kids focused with school work? Doing both? We understand that times are certainly testing us all at the moment.Cleaning Hacks

But, within all this madness, you’ve got to admit there’s no better feeling than a clean house. Not only does it help with hygiene but it’s also been proven to be a great way to de-stress.

That’s why we have taken inspiration from gurus across the country to provide you with 5 quick and easy hacks that could help with your cleaning routine whilst giving you extra time to relax and unwind.

1. Line, Line, Line Your Oven

Something that is super quick and gives great long lasting results is lining your oven!

The dreaded oven clean is a chore that we often put off but, by using linings,  the capturing of any food spills or burnt debris is catered for!  And, all you have to do is take them out once a week, soak them in washing up liquid, dry them off and pop them back in.

2. Zoflora Your Radiators!

Zoflora is an age old disinfectant made popular by Mrs Hinch the Insta cleaning sensation!  It’s a versatile product that has many varieties of fresh scents to choose from, and most are available at your local supermarket.

One alternative way in which you can use your Zoflora is by mixing it with water (to the recommended levels) and spray or soak onto a suitable cloth.  Then wipe down your radiators with the heat on and let it do its magic.

Your house will instantly smell amazing and feel ultra clean!

3. Steam Your Microwave Using A Lemon

This is a quick and easy hack to make your microwave sparkle. Plus lemons are known for their antibacterial properties!

Just squeeze half a lemon into a microwave-safe bowl filled to the half way point with water. Sit the bowl in the microwave and ‘cook’ for 3 minutes.  The steam will condense on the inside of the microwave and once the time is up, simply wipe clean with a sponge.

4. De-dust Your Blinds!

One of those dreaded jobs that never seems to be truly completed, even when you’ve dusted there always seems to be dust flying around every time they’re opened or closed again!   This easy hack is guaranteed to leave your blinds dust free until your next clean and won’t take too much effort either!

Combine 50/50 mix of water and vinegar in a bowl, pop a clean sock onto your hand and dip into the liquid and get cleaning.  The solution ensures any embedded dust lifts right away and by using a sock  you can cover both the top and bottom of each slat at once!

In no time at all you’ll have blinds to be proud of.

5. Re-purpose Dryer Sheets

Did you know dryer sheets have multiple uses, even after they’ve been tumbled with your clothes?  Here are three key things they can do:

  • Buff water spots from mirrors, bathroom/kitchen fixtures and shower doors.
  • Remove residue from the plate of your iron. Put your iron on the lowest heat setting and rub over the dryer sheet until the residue is gone and the plate is clean.
  • They’re great at counteracting static – so are perfect for wiping kickboards clean – removing any pet hair or dust.

We hope this list will help with your cleaning routine but we also couldn’t resist this last hack by Mrs Hinch. Not necessarily one for the home but certainly one for our own personal hygiene and hugely important to do on a regular basis even though, and let’s face it ladies, many of us don’t!

Makeup Brushes

There’s nothing worse than dirty brushes contributing to clogged pores. The cleaning sensation, Mrs Hinch recommends simply using a textured sponge, for instance the ‘scrub daddy’.  Simply place it in a sink add a little shampoo and luke warm water and then rub your brush over the top.  Within seconds you’ve got a clean, make-up free brush looking as good as new!
