Why New Builds Are A Good Energy Saving Choice

As we all know energy bills are rising significantly! So having an energy efficient home has never been as important! Not only do new energy efficient homes help homeowners save on their bills, but their home produces nearly a third less carbon compared to older properties. Overall, this prevents 2.4 tonnes of carbon entering the atmosphere each year for every house hold!

Meeting standards

It’s clear that having an energy efficient home has become increasingly important in recent years. With the ongoing crisis surrounding the increase of energy prices and the enhanced focus of environmental issues, new homes adapt to new regulations which is an advantage to new homeowners as they avoid facing disruptive, extensive and costly works to ensure their homes meet the standards required.

Advantages of buying new

So why should you buy new?

Not only does it help homeowners save but new build properties receive an A or B EPC rating for energy efficiency, while just 3% of existing properties reach the same standard!

It has been reported by the homebuilders federation that new build homes accounted for only 6.4% of the total annual CO2 emissions in 2021!

Top Tips to Reduce Energy Usage

Even if you do live in a new build home there are still ways in which you can help reduce your energy usage further.  So here are some top tips to help reduce your energy bills:

We want to help you save energy at home so we have come up with some top tips that can have immediate effect:

  • Turning appliances off standby. This could save £35 per year and remember don’t leave mobiles and laptops on charge unnecessarily.
  • Only fill the kettle with the water you need to make a drink with rather than filling to the brim for one drink.
  • An obvious one but turn lights off when you’re not using them, or when the room is unoccupied. And, in the longer term, switch to LED bulbs for even greater savings.
  • Shower rather than bathe; this can save energy in heating water and also reduce water usage too.

By making small changes now you will certainly see the financial benefits but we will also soon realise the environmental ones too!
